6th Form

The sixth form curriculum is life skills based.

We aim for each student to have a personalised pathway which enables them to complete qualifications at their own level and be ready for transition to college.

The students are given the opportunity to discuss and explore the different colleges and agencies available when leaving school.

BTEC, Functional skills, Personal and Social Education, vocational studies all within Foundation Learning are studied throughout the sixth form.

6th Curriculum

Sandfield Park 6th form can offer different courses at levels from pre entry to GCSE. The main focus of the curriculum is Life Skill based, which will include the 3 Functional Skills.

From September 2010 all 14-19 year students curriculum will be from the Foundation Learning Tier, in accordance with the Governments Guidelines.

The courses we offer are:

ASDAN: Personal Progress. This new course is for students working at pre - entry and entry level 1. The course combines number, communication and ICT within the life skill programme. Units of accreditation in the form of ASDAN Towards Independence will

ASDAN: Bronze/Silver Awards. This course offers the students the opportunity to begin to work independently on various topics which are lifeskilled based. The credits received from completing this course can be transferred into Certificate of Personal Effectiveness (CoPE) which is a level 1 course.

Functional skills (Maths, English and ICT) are taught at the appropriate level to all 6th form students, qualifications are taken when appropriate.

Swimming – Most pupils get the opportunity to either swim for fitness at Cardinal Heenan Pool or a hydro session at Alder Hey

PE/Physio – Each week there is a joint PE/Physio session.

Vocational studies: at present we are running a sustainable development programme where we are introducing horticulture skills to the students.
