Joseph and Sisters

In July we worked in partnership with the Royal Court Theatre to hold a Theatre Preparation Day. The musicians had already been working hard during after school club. The musical theatre group run by the learning mentor, Sarah Spoor had worked with an independent voice coach Jamie Gough for four months learning the songs from ‘Joseph’.

Our version ‘Joseph and Sisters’ needed to be pulled together into a ‘production’ that was ready for a whole school performance. This is when the advice and support from Jessikha Ellison and team, transformed practices into whole school preparation and focus on a production.

Having the support of professionals from the theatre transformed a school based production into a performance fit for stage. Some of the young people experienced going to the Royal Court but all of our students had the opportunity to be involved in the wide range of back stage activities and the exciting final production ‘Joseph and Sisters’.

The final production “Joseph and Sisters” was a great success. We now wait to see what the pupils would like to perform next year. Many thanks to all the Support Staff who support the pupils at after school activities

QISS

Sandfield Park School achieved Advanced Status in Quality in Study Support (Qiss) in December 2009. We are extremely proud of the hard work and commitment of all the staff who give so much of their time to support our pupils and other students in the community.

Study support and out of school hours learning are activities that occur outside the normal school day such as lunchtime, after school or at weekends.

Being part of a team, gaining formal accreditation or scoring a goal for the football team for the first time, allows young people to enjoy achieve and develop a sense of personal value. The activities have included golf, football, athletics, team games, choir, horse riding residential, wheelchair basketball, Calvert Trust residential, WII Tournaments, Eco warriors, school council, Rotary Interact Club, Musical Theatre group, singing, drumming and Consumer Challenge and more.

At Sandfield Park being part of a school club or activity is only the first step of belonging to a study support activity. Once skills and interests have been developed it is envisaged that pupils will extend their skills in becoming involved in the local club or develop skills that can lead to involvement in activities off site. The school seeks to extend opportunity for pupils beyond school based activities so that pupils are involved in community activities and become life long learners.

Study support is accredited through the Children’s University. Each year pupils have the opportunity to graduate in a cap and gown at Liverpool’s graduation ceremony.
