Sandfield Park School serves the needs of young people with a wide range of physical, medical, emotional and learning difficulties either in the main School setting, in Alder Hey Hospital or through Home Tuition.

Hospital Site

The Hospital School, which is part of Sandfield Park School, is situated at Alder Hey Hospital, and provides education for children while they are in hospital.

Teachers work closely with medical professionals to form part of a multidisciplinary approach to meeting the needs of patients during their stay in hospital.

Staff include the Head Teacher, Senior Teacher, Ward Teachers, Support Staff, and Administration Officer.

The administration and main resource base is located in the Child Development Centre.

Our Aim

Our aim is to maintain continuity of education for children while they are in hospital as well as provide an important element of normality through a positive and enjoyable learning experience


Who Do We Teach?

Pupils aged 5 to 16 (or up to 19 if they have a statement of SEN) who meet one or more of the following criteria:

Is likely to be in hospital longer than 5 days

Has a recurring or chronic illness/diagnosis

Has a Statement of Special Educational Needs

Is following an examination course eg. GCSE, Sats

Attends one of the specialist units on site
