Returning to school

When the medical profession considers your child to be fit enough to return to school they will be discharged from Home Tuition.

The home school will be informed. Some pupils may return directly to school, whilst for other pupils, there will be a phased integration plan. A final report will then be sent to the school to inform them of the progress made by your child.

What Happens If My Child Has Difficulties In Returning To School?

As part of the integration process, your son/daughter may have the opportunity to join a small group of pupils who are taught for a number sessions in Alder Hey School Base and/or on the Sandfield site.

The aim is to help your child to become familiar with being taught along side other pupils in a small teaching group environment. It will provide them with an opportunity to interact with their peers and to develop their confidence and self-esteem.

The next stage will involve a phased integration back into their home (or a new) school. A ‘Team around the Child’ meeting will be set up. During this time a timetable and a support system will be discussed. Initially this will focus on less academic subjects. Subject continuity is also another important factor when developing a phased return. The Home Tutor will continue to support your son/daughter for as long as necessary.
