11d Timetable 2025/26

Feb – March ’26
This half term, 11D have attended The Lodge Wellness Centre as part of their Enrichment programme. Here, they have taken part in craft based activities as well as Meditation and Mindfulness Workshops, aimed at building resilience, self-belief and positivity. These activities have given the pupils breathing and relaxation techniques that they can utilise in the run up to this summers GCSE exams to help them relax and not become stressed.

March ’26
During this unit, Year 11D have developed a strong understanding of the key principles of evolution, natural selection, and the factors leading to species extinction.

They explored Darwin’s Theory of Natural Selection, including:

  • Variation within populations
  • The role of genetic differences
  • Survival advantage and environmental pressures
  • Reproduction and the passing on of beneficial traits

They compared Darwin’s ideas with earlier theories, such as Lamarck’s theory of acquired characteristics, discussing why Darwin’s model is accepted by the scientific community today.

March ’26
For their Digital Skills qualification, year 11 pupils have been learning how to assess the risks of completing online forms and making transactions. They practiced identifying secure websites, recognising trustworthy payment methods, and spotting signs of scams or phishing. This helps them protect their personal information and make safer choices when interacting online.

11d have been getting creative this end of term with some egg decorating. Pupils experimented with different colours, patterns, materials and styles to make their eggs as bright and unique as possible. Well done 11d!

Reading a book and being able to enjoy a story is one of the most satisfying things you can experience. We try to encourage all students to pick a book up and read!

This year we celebrated World Book Day on 5th March with a range of different activities. Students chose a book and staff discussed and encouraged reading for pleasure. Individual staff, across all subjects, created a range of quizzes and tasks.     

February ’26
Year 11 are currently in revision mode. Lessons are split throughout the week. Some are given to finishing the scheme of work and others are spent reviewing prior knowledge. We are working through a programme which allows pupils to practice a variety of topics through short 30 minute revision bundles. Great preparation year 11, let’s get the momentum going!

January ’26
11d have been studying section B of Paper two. This covers a range of different writing forms, including articles. Students have been able to use a variety of persuasive techniques and give their points of view.

December ’25
Year 11s have been looking into application software to understand how different programs help with everyday tasks. They are exploring examples such as word processors, spreadsheets, and presentation tools, discussing their features, tools and uses. Pupils are also experimenting with formatting and shapes to create mind maps in Microsoft PowerPoint.

September ’25
In GCSE Biology we have been learning about the following:

The concept of homeostasis: Why is it essential for survival and the role of control systems.

Negative feedback mechanisms: How sensors, coordination centers, and effectors work together to keep conditions within a narrow range.

Regulation of body temperature: How the body responds to being too hot or too cold.

Control of blood glucose levels: The roles of insulin and glucagon in maintaining balance.

Water balance: How the kidneys regulate water and the importance of hormones like ADH. Human nervous and hormonal systems: How they interact to maintain homeostasis. 

July ’25
Pupils at ACE took part in collaborative project to create a sculpture that represents belonging at ACE. Each pupil was able to create a personal design for their handprint before adding it to the tree to create a final collaborative piece.

Some Year 11 pupils visited Edge Hill University to take part in some Aspirations Workshops. During the workshops the young people were able to get an insight into University life and the different courses that are available.
