Class 9a
Python Programming
This term, students have been introduced to the basics of text-based programming using Python. Their work has focused on developing an understanding of:
Variables – storing and updating data using meaningful variable names.
Functions – The use of functions to display messages and collect user input.
Arithmetic operators – performing calculations using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Binary selection (if/else statements) – making decisions in code based on conditions.
Syntax – identifying and correcting mistakes in their code, such as missing colons, incorrect indentation, or misspelled commands.

Pupils have been able to predict what code will do, debug errors, and modify existing scripts. These skills are helping students transition from block-based to text-based programming with confidence. Well done 9a!
ART

Year 9 students worked on a project based on ‘Street Art’ and understanding how it can be a powerful form of artistic expression that addresses important social issues. Students focused on their own individual interest of either a social or political theme, and applied their creative ideas to design and make a ‘Tote’ bag using textile dyes, pens and materials. Students were introduced to a number of Artists who have used ‘The power of art’ in their work throughout history.
Enrichment visit – local park
Enrichment visits at ACE aim to improve confidence, independence, social communication and resilience. 9a have enjoyed visits to local parks as part of this program.

Alien Autopsy
This week in enrichment, we had the pleasure of hosting Chris from The Brain Charity. During the session, students engaged in a variety of creative and technical activities. The focus was on producing a fictional alien autopsy, where students developed skills in various areas.

Key skills used during the session:
- Special Effects Makeup: Creating realistic fake body parts and alien features.
- Lighting Techniques: Setting up and adjusting lighting to enhance the atmosphere.
- Camera Skills: Filming and capturing high-quality footage for the autopsy scene.
- Sound Effects: Incorporating audio to complement the visual elements and enhance the scene.
- Team Collaboration: Pupils contributed to each aspect of the process, working together to create the final production.
- Live Performance: Students took part in filming a live organ removal scene, integrating lights, sound, and special effects to produce an immersive experience.

The session provided hands-on experience in various creative fields and encouraged teamwork throughout the process.
