Sixth Form Groups 1,2,3
Welcome to Sixth Form!
We have made a brilliant start to the new school year and it is great to see all pupils continuing to build upon their relationships with staff and peers. We are currently focusing on pupil health and well-being and encouraging pupils to express their feelings and emotions on a daily basis. We are also supporting pupils with socialising and communicating with others.
In the Sixth Form, we have a mixture of year 12, 13 and 14 pupils. Our curriculum is life skill based and we aim for pupils to have their own personalised pathway. This will enable them to complete qualifications at their own level and prepare pupils for their journey and transition into College, Post-19 placements and Adulthood.
We offer a variety of courses from Pre-entry level to Level 2. The aim is for all pupils to access and achieve qualifications at the appropriate level. Although we focus our curriculum on life skills, we do combine it with Employability and Functional Skills Literacy, Numeracy and ICT. Pupils also have the opportunity to participate in Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Bronze and Silver Award, with the hope of progressing to the Gold Award in the future. The Duke of Edinburgh Expeditions progress each year. DofE enables pupils to build upon their skills and knowledge in a variety of areas such as volunteering, skills, physical skills and expedition skills. We are hoping to participate in the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme again in the future as that has also been a great success with our young people in the past. ‘NCS exists to engage, unite and empower young people, building their confidence so they can go out there and achieve their dreams, no matter where they’re from or what their background is’. This academic year, we are offering and introducing NHS Cadets to our young people, which is such a fantastic opportunity to develop skills linked to employment.

Hugh Baird College
Has been on hold since the pandemic, but we are currently awaiting a plan of action and a start date. In the past, pupils have accessed several six week taster sessions at the College on a weekly basis. Pupils were able to choose from a variety of options, ranging from Floristry, Painting & Decorating to Joinery and Creative Arts and Catering.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme is offered to all students.

Sporting Activities
Students are given the opportunity to experience activities they can continue with out of school, these include Yoga, The Exercise studio at Dovecot MAC, Tennis, Football and the Golf Driving Range.

Preparation for the future
The students are given the opportunity to discuss and explore the different colleges, agencies and employment providers available when leaving school, with our school Inclusion and Careers lead.

NHS Cadets
Youth programme providing opportunities to explore roles in healthcare.

Independent Travel Training
We collaborate with the Travel Support Team at Liverpool City Council. They offer travel training to young people up to the age of 19 who currently cannot get to school or college independently because of their special educational needs or disability. It is done through practical and classroom-based sessions with a trainer and each young person gains the skills needed to take that journey independently. To recognise the young people’s achievement, they will gain a Badge of Excellence Open Awards qualification.
