School trip to The World Museum Liverpool – January 2025

During our visit to The World Museum, we explored Space, Dinosaurs and fossils and the aquarium.

School Trip to Chester Zoo – February 2025

During our school trip to Chester Zoo, we got to see some of our favourite animals. Thank you to Chester Zoo for showing us around. The young people had the best time.

School Trip to The Everyman Theatre Liverpool – February 2025

During our backstage tour of the theatre, we visited the theatre stage, the costume department and the lighting booth. We tried on costumes and used the lighting to created a scene which was then performed by actors at the theatre.

NSPCC Number Day – February 2025

The children took part in fun Maths activities to celebrate the 25th anniversary of NSPCC Number Day. We explored how many, jumps, toe touches, lunges and twirls we could do in 10 seconds to think about our heart health.

Pancake Day – March 2025

Pupils enjoyed the role of “chef” taking orders and exploring measurements of different toppings. Pupils explored safely using cutlery to cut strawberries, bananas and to squeeze lemon juice.

Recycling Enterprise Project – Spring term 2025

As part of our Spring term recycling enterprise project, pupils visited Springfield Park and were shocked at how much litter we were able to safely collect and dispose of to help the environment.

Graffiti Artist – March 2025

The children really enjoyed creating graffiti artwork using spray paint cans. This session was provided by an external provider and funded by the Alder Hey Charity service. Thank you!

Liverpool Philharmonic Hall – March 2025

The children attended The World in One City: A Musical Journey concert performed by The Philharmonic Orchestra. In partnership with National Museums Liverpool, their fun filled concerts explored the themes of geography and identify, using music to help discover the history and traditions of Liverpool and communities around the world.

Visit from Bonnie – March 2025

This half term the children had a visit from Bonnie the therapy dog. The children loved spending time with Bonnie, grooming her and feeding her treats. We look forward to seeing you again soon Bonnie.

World Book Day – March 2025

The staff and students of Sunflower House celebrated World Book Day in style!

Home Safari – April 2025

Grand National winner jockey visit – April 2025

Pupils at Sunflower House enjoyed meeting the 2012 Grant National champion horse – Neptune Collonges.

Maths – May 2025

Pupils at Sunflower House started the Summer term off with a fun way to explore our Maths Angles unit.

Home Safari Visit – May 2025

We had an exciting visit from Dennis the giant rabbit, Fred the tortoise, Meg the hairless guinea pig and Ziggy the Gecko.

Hospital Careers Event – May 2025

Pupils attended a careers event at The Institute at Alder Hey Childrens Hospital. We explored audiology, pharmacy and had a go at creating medicine and learnt about urinalysis.

Forest School – Summer 1 Term

Pupils have learnt about fire safety, how to create a fire and put this out and have explored outdoor cooking.

Wellbeing Walk – June 2025

Staff and Young people at Sunflower House attended a well-being walk around the grounds of Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. We saw lots of beautiful flowers along the way.

Child Safety Week – June 2025

Children and Young people took part in activities from The Child Accident Prevention Trust to learn about different ways to keep safe. We discussed different safety symbols as a group and played a game of spot the dangers.

My Money Week – June 2025

During My Money Week pupils explored coins and physical means of payment, engaged in discussion about the size and value of each GBP coin and have completed research into different world wide currency focusing on the exchange rate and how this impacts the value of currency.

ARTS4US – June 2025

Pupils had a chance to explore creativity with music, drama, design and story making. Pupils designed their own astronaut spacesuit.

Knowsley Safari School Trip – July 2025

Thank you Knowsley Safari for a wonderful trip, we loved the cheeky monkeys and seeing the Wolves eat the bags we created as part of our 4 week Discover and Learn sessions.

Home Safari – June 2025

This morning we had a lovely visit from Home Safari, who brought lots of animals for the young people to meet. One of the animals we got to meet was Ziggy, who is just relaxing after being given some water by one of our young people.
