CLASS S6
Welcome to S6
This year staff are: Miss Cant, Mrs Roney, Ms Stocks-Moore, Mrs Ellis (Tues-Fri) and Mrs Greatorex/Miss Jarrett (Monday).
In S6 we are a group of Year 10-11 pupils. We will be looking at Employability in depth this year and improving skills that can be transferred from Curriculum lessons to life outside school. We have different class jobs throughout the year and have the opportunity in Year 11 to do some creative work experience.
We will be working towards Functional Skills Entry Levels in English, Maths and Science, and additional AQA Unit Awards to send pupils to Sixth Form or college with the best Qualifications they can achieve. Home learning will be suggested on a regular basis to consolidate and build on ideas learned in class.
Until then, students can log on to many different websites to practise skills already learnt. These include…
Mathletics – A maths website with interactive activities and a world-wide calculation challenge. New activities are set based on what area the pupils are focussing on in mathematics and these will automatically load up so that they are completed before accessing other areas of the website. Account login details can be taken home by pupils.
BKSB – Lessons and activities for Entry Level Maths, English and Computing skills. Account login details can be taken home by pupils.
Epic Books – Access to various books to practice reading fluency and skills. Account login details can be taken home by pupils.
Espresso – A hub of information and activities that can be accessed online and printed off. Account login details can be taken home by pupils.
Top Marks – Various Maths games particularly for timetables practice, telling the time and money.
BBC Bitesize – Contains information about lots of subjects and is especially useful for Science revision.

We are currently reading Dracula in English and have been writing our own versions using suitable language, complex sentences and paragraphs where we can.

Careers Fair – Friday 28th February
We had a chance this half term to speak with colleges and providers. The staff working with Year 11s for Travel Training were there, and we all spoke with colleges that had courses we might be interested in. Year 11s can choose to go to college or carry on to Sixth Form next year so we are thinking about our educational future.

Food and Nutrition
We spent a half term learning about and making yeast dishes. The pupils got a chance to choose one of the three dishes they had made – Focaccia, Cinnamon Knots and Cheesy Breadsticks – and make it more independently with a change they had made. Some pupils chose to make ‘cheesecake’ knots, some chose ‘chocolate’ knots and some other variations. We have also made pizzas!
