Maths at ACE
The aims and objectives of the GCSE (9–1) in Mathematics are to enable students to:
  • develop fluent knowledge, skills and understanding of mathematical methods and concepts
  • acquire, select and apply mathematical techniques to solve problems
  • reason mathematically, make deductions and inferences, and draw conclusions
  • comprehend, interpret and communicate mathematical information in a variety of forms appropriate to the information and context​
Key Stage 3
At Key Stage 3 (KS3), both Year 7 and 8 pupils will follow the KS3 curriculum until Year 9 where they will then follow the Key Stage 4 (KS4) curriculum.
Pupils will cover all 5 strands of the KS3 curriculum:
  • Number
  • Algebra
  • Ratio and proportion
  • Geometry and measure
  • Probability and statistics
The new assessments at KS3 will consist of 3 formal termly assessments coinciding with our new STEPS programme that challenge students through GCSE type questions and tests their skills in the 5 strands shown above. The assessments will be used to assist students and ensure they are secure in their knowledge and understanding.
Key Stage 4
At KS4, pupils may be entered for the following courses:
  • Entry Level Certificate
  • Foundation GCSE - Exam Board - Edexcel
  • Higher GCSE - Exam Board - Edexcel
Assessments:
GCSE – formal examinations at the end of the course in May/June, 3 papers (2 calculator, 1 non-calculator) and 90 mins each.
Pupils who are working below GCSE level may be entered for Functional Skills Level 1 or 2 and achieve equivalent GCSE grades. Pupils working below Functional Skills Level 1 will be entered for Entry Level Certificate.
Entry Level Certificate – no formal external examination at the end of the course, internally assessed during June and 2 separate assessments (stage test and task).
