Science at ACE
Key stage 3 In Key stage 3 we are trying to best prepare the pupils for their future GCSE examinations by introducing key concepts and scientific ideas at an early age. These are as follows:
At Key Stage 4 students can follow either Entry Level Science or a GCSE 9-1 Biology course. The Entry Level Certificate is designed to motivate students and to provide a stepping stone to GCSE. The students are taught Chemistry, Physics and Biology modules and throughout the year sit 6 externally set assessments. The 6 papers form 100% of the overall course with a minimum of 101/150 needed to achieve the maximum level 3 qualification. At KS4 we offer AQA GCSE Biology 9-1. This course consists of 2 exam papers each lasting 1hr 45 and is taken at the end of year 11. Each paper is worth 50% of the overall mark. Paper 1 consists of Cell biology, Organisation, Infection and Response and Bioenergetics. Paper 2 consists of Homeostasis and Response, Inheritance, Variation and Evolution and Ecology. Required practicals - there are 8 practicals that all pupils must undertake as a legal requirement before being entered for this examination.
