Aim to Work
Sandfield Park School ‘Aim to Work’ Employability Strategy provides students with a stable programme of careers activities and opportunities, develop skills, interests and talents and build employability skills.
Sandfield Park School is part of the Liverpool Careers Hub and is working towards the 8 Gatsby Benchmarks of Good Careers Guidance. We complete 3 Compass returns per year and work closely with our Enterprise Co-ordinator and the Liverpool Careers Hub.
Our vision, is to support pupils to develop their own ideas of what their future should look like; which may include employment and opportunities to progress to further education and vocational training. We endeavour to provide the right support to help pupils to prepare for adult life, future destinations, achievable aspirations and live happy fulfilled lives.

All pupils access a careers development programme which is adapted and embedded within the school curriculum, the programme includes work experience opportunities (within the school environment or external placements) mini enterprise/pre internship work experience, Sandfield Creations, work experience at Sandy Park Café, and Supported Internships.

Supported Internship Programme working with local employers.
The Careers Programme, Aim to Work provides a person centred, holistic careers programme which connects learning to employability skills.
We have a planned careers programme based on Talentino ‘Careers at Every Level’ Careers Programme for Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 and work to the Gatsby Benchmarks.

Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG)

The aim of CEIAG is to prepare students for successful transition to the next stage of education or employment through appropriate provision. We are committed to provide person centred, unbiased advice, support and guidance which actively promotes equality and challenges gender stereotypes. We support pupils to engage in activities to develop talents and skills, help raise motivation and attainment, build work experience, develop knowledge, skills and understanding of vocational and qualification pathways. We support pupils to make informed decisions when considering their next steps through access to personalised, impartial careers, advice and guidance information, this may include paid employment, volunteering, further education, training or apprenticeship

What is LMI (Labour Market Information?
Understanding the local labour market is key to identifying potential career pathways and employment opportunities for the future. LMI helps to understand what industries and jobs are increasing or decreasing, skills and qualification requirements.
We work with various organisations to find out about new opportunities and to ensure we can support pupils to gain skills and experiences.

Careers Impact

The School will assess the impact of its careers programmes on students by completing an annual student survey and recording and analysing destinations data. In addition, parents will be surveyed after key events e.g. EHCP annual review and transition meetings.
To measure and assess our careers provision, the school has used Compass+ Evaluation Toolkit, SEND Gatsby Benchmarks Toolkit.
The programme is regularly reviewed.

Provider Access Requests
We believe in building strong relationships with local further education colleges, apprenticeship providers, and employers.  Our careers programme includes a large number of opportunities for external providers to talk to and interact with students and their parents, ensuring they are aware of vocational and technical pathways and opportunities as well as academic ones.
Providers wishing to request access should contact Sarah Spoor Careers Leader
Telephone: 01512280324 or email s.spoor@sandfieldpark.liverpool.sch.uk
All providers are welcome to discuss how they would like to support and contribute to careers provision for our students. They may like to get involved in activities and events, such as: careers fairs, assemblies, careers information events, ‘world of work’ talks, employer visits, mock interviews.
This complies with the school’s legal obligations under Section 42B of the Education Act 1997.

Pupil entitlement
All pupils in years 7-14 are entitled to independent and impartial careers guidance. In school we will provide pupils with opportunities to develop pupil aspirations.
  • to find out about technical education qualifications and apprenticeships opportunities, as part of a careers programme which provides information on the full range of education and training options available at each transition point;
  • to hear from a range of local providers about the opportunities they offer, including technical education and apprenticeships – through options events, assemblies and group discussions and taster events;
  • to understand how to make applications for the full range of academic and technical courses.
Providers are welcome to leave copies of their prospectus or course literature and we will distribute them to appropriate students, parents and carers.

Employers Can you help?

Do you work in a business that could help provide work experience or opportunities for our students?
Sandfield Park School has an excellent track record of supporting businesses and young people with learning difficulties into paid employment.
We believe more employers should be encouraged to support and employ more young people with a learning disability towards creating a more inclusive workforce.

We are always looking at building partnerships to support our employability programme, we would love to hear from any employer or organisation who may be interested in supporting Sandfield Park School to share skills and develop our Aim to Work offer:

  • Guest speaker talks and presentations
  • Workplace visits
  • Practical workshops
  • Work Experience
  • Supported Internships
  • Traineeships
  • Apprenticeships
  • Representation at parents evenings and careers fairs
  • Mock Interviews
